5 EASY LAUNDRY HACKS + TIPS!

Laundry. It never ends, and can feel so daunting. But I’ve got some hacks and tips to make doing the laundry a little bit easier and a little less monotonous.

TIP 1: Wall-hanging drying racks. These make my narrow laundry room space so much more functional, and I don’t have to use that flimsy drying rack in the bottom left corner that was always falling apart taking up space in the middle of the foyer and falling apart on the reg. Adam likes to keep it for sentimental reasons.

TIP 2: Scent boosters. If you’ve followed me awhile, it’s probably safe to say that if scents were a love language, that would be mine. I love when things smell fresh and clean. So even though laundry is not a chore I am fond of, I get excited using different scent boosters in my laundry. For Presley’s baby’s clothes, I loved using Dreft scent boosters. (FYI: I never used anything for Landon because he has very sensitive skin!) For our towels and sheets, I love using the Mrs. Meyer’s honeysuckle scent crystals. And for my personal clothes, I love the Downy Febreeze April scent. And on my husband’s clothes, I love the Febreeze sport fresh scent. When you take your clothes out of the washer to hang them or transfer them to the dryer, the laundry room instantly smells amazing!

TIP 3: Add a couple ice cubes to your dryer and run on low for 20 minutes to fluff and dewrinkle the clothes that have been hiding out there for the last week, waiting to be folded in the dark. And if you want to cut down on drying time overall, get some wool dryer balls. They help your clothes dry faster by keeping them spaced apart as they tumble. You can also add essential oil drops to them if you don’t want to use dryer sheets.

TIP 4: Sort your laundry as you take it off. For our home, we have these loads, which I have separate hampers and bins for so that I never have to waste time in our skinny laundry room (can you tell I would NEVER design a home with a narrow laundry space?):

  • My hang dry clothes
  • My dryer clothes
  • Landon’s clothes
  • Presley’s clothes
  • Dark towels and sheets
  • White towels and sheets
  • Husband’s dark clothes
  • Husband’s light clothes

TIP 5: Divide laundry up over a week. If I did all the above loads block style (which is how I do most of my work), I would be doing laundry all day. However, if I do one or two of those loads a day, I would be doing laundry all day long. And when it comes to my husband, Adam, he does his own laundry, and we recently shifted into him taking over the kids laundry to give me some more time back. YAY!!! I could skip around the house, I’m seriously so happy! So, you could implement that strategy too. See if your partner can take over some loads and save you some time, or hire a helper on Care.com. Either way, saves you some time.

I love all of these hacks! Especially small laundry room hacks! My laundry room is basically a laundry closet! Have you ever tried collapsible laundry baskets? I was thinking of getting one to try to save some room, but I’m not sure how durable they actually are.

I LOVE LAUNDRY!!! Legit my favorite chore yet I’ve never heard of the ice cube trick. I usually just put a damp washcloth or hand towel in the dryer & turn it on to remove wrinkles. Wish I could use scent boosters but my family and I all have sensitive skin. I try to add some essential oils to my free & clear laundry detergent but it never seems like enough to give my clothes a fresh scent.
