FITNESS ROUTINES FOR BUSY MOMS

Before kids, I definitely took my fitness routine for granted. As a single teacher, I would wake up at 5 AM, ride my exercise bike for an hour before showering and getting ready for school. I even had a gym membership, so I’d go to the gym occasionally after school and on the weekends. As a bride-to-be, I was at Pure Barre at least 5x a week, and would add in a hot yoga class a couple times a week too. These days, I’m lucky if I can get in a walk to the park pushing the double stroller, hoping I burn a few extra calories. Or that hour walk around Target was sort of a workout, right? Anyone else?!?

So here are some of the things I had to prioritize to make my fitness routine work for me and busy mom life.

  • I have an exercise bike, and I put it in the middle of the playroom. This way, I can keep an eye on my kids and get in at least a 30 minute if not 60 minute cardio workout while they play. I get asked a lot about my exercise bike, and I’ve had this since college, so they no longer make this model. Here’s the link to latest version of the one I have in case you’re interested.

  • I do short, 7-minute HIIT workout routines, that you repeat three times. Total, it’s a 21 minute workout, which I can squeeze into any nap time, or wake up a half hour early and sweat my booty off! I loved doing the one Lucy Wyndham Reed created when I visited Anna Saccone in London last month, both of whom are fabulous, and you should totally check them out if you don’t already follow them! But, I was so inspired, I started making up some of my own routines for IG TV. Check out this workout that is Ariana Grande themed.
  • I schedule a workout class once a week. It makes me feel like my old self, gets me out of the house for a little bit, and helps me clear my head. My personal preference is hot yoga on a Friday morning. It really helps end a chaotic week on a high (and sweaty) note.

What do you busy moms do to stay fit? Let me know your ideas in the comments! I’m always looking to change things up because variety in workouts is so important so I never plateau or get bored.
